Overview of Thailand Entry Requirements 2026

Thailand remains one of the world's most visited countries, welcoming over 30 million international tourists annually. In 2024, Thailand expanded its visa-free programme to 93 countries — granting 60 days of visa-free stay to most nationalities including the USA, UK, all EU member states, Canada, Australia, Japan, and South Korea. Understanding the entry requirements before you travel is essential to avoid issues at the border.

Thailand's entry requirements depend on your nationality. Visa-exempt travellers must carry a valid passport (minimum 6 months validity), a return or onward ticket, and proof of sufficient funds. For nationals outside the visa-exempt list, the Thailand eVisa system at thaievisa.go.th allows online applications for Tourist (TR), Non-Immigrant, and other visa categories.

Eligibility Criteria

To enter Thailand, you must hold a passport with at least 6 months validity and be free of any communicable diseases listed under Thailand's entry regulations. You must not have a criminal record that would render you inadmissible. Visa-free visitors must demonstrate genuine tourist intent and sufficient funds for the intended stay. The Immigration Bureau may deny entry to any traveller deemed a risk or without adequate documentation.

How to Apply

Visa-exempt nationals simply arrive at a Thai port of entry with their passport, return ticket, and evidence of funds — no pre-arrival authorisation is required. Nationals who need a Tourist Visa (TR) should apply online at thaievisa.go.th at least 5–7 business days before travel. The eVisa is emailed as a PDF; print it and present it at immigration alongside your passport.
