Introduction
The UAE — comprising Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and 4 other emirates — is one of the world's top destinations for tourism, business, and relocation. Dubai is a global aviation hub (DXB), and the UAE has an expansive visa-free and visa-on-arrival policy. Most Western nationalities are visa-free for 30 days. The UAE introduced a revamped visa system in 2022 making it easier than ever to visit and relocate.
Tourist & Short Stay
- Visa on Arrival (Free, 30 days): Citizens of 50+ countries including USA, UK, EU (Schengen), Canada, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, and many others receive a free 30-day visa on arrival, extendable once for another 30 days (AED 600 fee). 180 days per year total.
- eVisa 30 days — AED 250: For nationalities not covered by VoA. Apply via ICA portal (icp.gov.ae), airline websites (Emirates, Etihad), or travel agents. Single or multiple entry. Processing 3–5 business days.
- eVisa 60 days — AED 350: Double the stay; same application process. Multiple-entry options available.
- 96-hour Visa (Free): For transit passengers connecting through DXB/AUH — apply via Emirates/Etihad. Allows hotel stay in Dubai/Abu Dhabi.
- 5-year Multiple-Entry Tourist Visa: Available for eligible nationalities — AED 650. Allows multiple visits, 90 days per entry, 180 days/year max.
Business Visa
Business visits (meetings, exhibitions) are covered by tourist visa or VoA for most nationalities. For long-term business, the UAE offers:
- Free Zone company formation (0% corporate tax, 100% foreign ownership) in DIFC, ADGM, JAFZA, and 40+ others.
- Mainland company (Limited Liability Company or branch) with a local service agent.
- Dubai CommerCity, Abu Dhabi Global Market — sector-specific business hubs.
Work & Long-Stay Visas
- Employment Visa (2-year, renewable): Employer-sponsored; employer files with Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE). Employee undergoes Emirates ID biometrics and medical check. Salary minimum varies by emirate and job category.
- Golden Visa (10 years): For investors (AED 2 million+ in property or business), entrepreneurs, specialized talents (doctors, engineers, scientists, artists), and outstanding students. Apply via icp.gov.ae. No sponsor required; 6-month multiple-entry interim visa while processing.

Student Visa
Student residence visa required for full-time university enrollment. Sponsored by the university; issued for 1 year, renewable. Allows part-time work (20 hours/week) with employer NOC. Medical examination and Emirates ID mandatory.
Airport Transit
Most nationalities may transit airside at DXB or AUH without a visa. Landside transit (leaving airport) requires either VoA eligibility, eVisa, or the free 96-hour transit visa (via airline). Dubai and Abu Dhabi are global layover destinations with dedicated transit hotels and tours.
