Introduction

Taiwan is a vibrant island destination renowned for its food culture, night markets, hot springs, and modern cities. Taiwan's Republic of China (ROC) government has an independent visa policy. Citizens of approximately 140 countries enjoy visa-free entry or can obtain a landing visa. Taiwan also offers an eVisa for nationalities not covered by visa-free programs.

Tourist & Short Stay

  • Visa-Free (14–90 days): USA, Canada, EU countries, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Brazil and many others. Most OECD nations receive 90-day visa-free. Apply for extension at National Immigration Agency (NIA) if needed.
  • eVisa (USD 31 single / USD 62 multiple): For nationalities not qualifying for visa-free (e.g., India, Russia, some SE Asian countries). Apply online at visawebapp.boca.gov.tw. Processing 3 business days. Valid 3 months from issue; 30-day stay per entry.
  • Landing Visa: Available at airports for select nationalities; TWD 1,600 (approx. USD 50); 30 days.

Business Visa

Business visits (meetings, seminars, trade) are covered by visa-free entry or eVisa for most nationalities. For long-term business operations, an Investor Visa requires minimum investment of NTD 6 million (approx. USD 190,000) in a Taiwan company. Business multiple-entry visas are issued by BOCA (Bureau of Consular Affairs).

Work & Long-Stay Visas

  • Digital Nomad Visa: Taiwan launched a pilot digital nomad visa (2023) for remote workers earning >USD 3,333/month from overseas employers. Duration up to 1 year.
  • Entrepreneur Visa: For those establishing or managing a startup in Taiwan (NT$ 500,000+ investment or acceptance into a government incubator).

Student Visa

Resident visa (student category) required for degree programs. Apply with university admission letter, proof of funds (NTD 200,000+ or equivalent), and passport valid 6 months.
