Vietnam in 2026: 45-day exemption for 24 countries, e-Visa for all nationalities
Citizens of 24 countries, including France, can stay 45 days without a visa from the date of entry (Resolutions 44/NQ-CP and 229/NQ-CP); other durations apply under bilateral agreements. The e-Visa is open to all nationalities on evisa.gov.vn, for a maximum of 90 days, single or multiple entry. Official fees usually displayed: 25 USD for single entry, 50 USD for multiple entry. The pre-arrival declaration (PAI) is optional during the pilot phase and does not replace a visa.

The Vietnamese e-Visa is an electronic visa issued by the Immigration Department of the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security. It is open to citizens of all countries, for tourism or business, and can only be applied for online on the official portal evisa.gov.vn. It can be issued for a maximum of 90 days, single or multiple entry, subject to approval and to the dates shown on the visa.

Who needs this visa?
Citizens of all countries can apply for the e-Visa. It is required if your nationality is not exempt, or if your stay exceeds the length of your exemption: for example, more than 45 days for the 24 countries covered by Resolutions 44/NQ-CP and 229/NQ-CP, including France. Application process
- Go to the official portal evisa.gov.vn. Beware of websites that imitate the official portal.
- Complete the online form: identity, passport, dates of stay, entry and exit points, accommodation address.
- Upload a recent passport-style photo and your passport data page.
- Pay the official fees online: 25 USD for single entry or 50 USD for multiple entry.
- Wait for the decision: the processing time is indicative and not guaranteed. Do not book non-refundable travel before you have received your e-Visa.
- Check the validity dates and the information on the e-Visa, print it and present it with your passport on arrival.

An extension or a new visa can be requested in Vietnam from the Immigration Department, through an organization or individual sponsoring you. This is never automatic and the decision rests with the authorities.
Does the PAI declaration replace the e-Visa?
No. The pre-arrival declaration (PAI), on prearrival.immigration.gov.vn, is a separate procedure and is optional during the pilot phase. It does not replace a visa.
