NZeTA Application Fee Breakdown
The NZeTA has two fee tiers: NZD 17 via the mobile app and NZD 23 via the web browser. Using the app saves NZD 6 and is the recommended method. In addition, every NZeTA applicant must pay the mandatory International Visitor Levy (IVL) of NZD 35, bringing the total to NZD 52 (mobile) or NZD 58 (web). The IVL funds conservation and tourism infrastructure in New Zealand.
International Visitor Levy (IVL)
The IVL of NZD 35 is collected at the same time as the NZeTA application fee. It is a one-off payment per NZeTA grant (valid 2 years) and is not charged again for subsequent visits within the 2-year validity period. Australian citizens are exempt from both the NZeTA and IVL. Cruise passengers arrive separately and have different levy arrangements.
Payment Methods
Both the NZeTA application fee and IVL are paid online during the application process using Visa, Mastercard, American Express or UnionPay. The total payment (NZD 52 or NZD 58) is taken in a single transaction. Fees are in New Zealand dollars; your card provider applies the exchange rate at the time of payment. There are no additional processing fees from the government portal.
Refund Policy
NZeTA and IVL fees are non-refundable once paid, regardless of whether the application is approved or declined. If your NZeTA is declined, you will need to apply for a visitor visa and cannot reclaim the NZeTA/IVL fee. Ensure your passport is valid, your travel history is accurately declared, and your character declarations are honest before paying.
