Comment prolonger votre India Visa en 2026
India is one of the world's most diverse travel destinations, attracting millions of visitors each year. If you need more time to explore its heritage sites, mountains, and coastlines, understanding the visa extension process is essential — the rules differ significantly between the popular e-Tourist Visa and a regular sticker visa.

Pouvez-vous prolonger votre India Visa?
Whether you can extend depends on the type of visa you hold. e-Tourist Visa (eTV) — India's electronic tourist visa is not extendable. You must exit India before your eTV expires and, if eligible, apply for a fresh eTV from outside the country. Regular Tourist Visa (sticker visa) — a conventional tourist visa issued at an Indian embassy or consulate can be extended. Extensions are processed by the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) or Foreigners Registration Office (FRO) in the city where you are staying. Extensions are typically granted in increments of up to 6 months, subject to the officer's discretion, and the total stay including extension usually cannot exceed 6 months in a calendar year.

Overstay Penalties — Important!
Overstaying an Indian visa is a serious offence. Penalties include a fine, potential deportation, and a blacklisting ban that can prevent future entry to India for several years. The e-Tourist Visa specifically states that overstay will result in deportation and future visa refusals. Always apply for an extension at least 15 days before your visa expires to give sufficient processing time. If you overstay inadvertently, report to the FRRO immediately rather than waiting to be caught at the airport.
