Travellers who require a visa to visit France must apply for a Schengen Short-Stay Visa (Type C), which allows up to 90 days within any 180-day period across all 27 Schengen member states. Sante et Conditions d'Entree

  • Medical exam: Required for long-stay visa holders upon arrival in France as part of the OFII validation process. Includes chest X-ray and general health assessment at an OFII-approved center.
  • Vaccinations: No mandatory vaccinations for entry. Recommended: routine vaccines, Hepatitis A, Measles-Mumps-Rubella (MMR). Children must have 11 mandatory vaccinations for school enrollment in France.

Extension et Depassement

Refus et Recours

  • Common refusal reasons: Insufficient travel insurance, inadequate financial means, lack of proof of accommodation, unclear purpose of travel, previous Schengen violations, incomplete application, doubts about intention to return.
  • Appeal process: Schengen visa refusals can be appealed to the Commission de Recours contre les Decisions de Refus de Visa (CRV) within 2 months of notification. A further appeal to the administrative tribunal (Tribunal Administratif de Nantes) is possible within 2 months of the CRV decision.
  • Long-stay refusal: Can be challenged through the CRV and then the administrative courts.
  • Reapplication: Applicants may reapply immediately with improved documentation. A refusal does not prevent future applications but is noted in the Visa Information System (VIS) for 5 years.
